By centering the daily task of preparing food for our children and our loved ones, Packing a Legacy of Leftovers connects to the universal drive to meet our basic human needs. No matter how luxurious or basic our kitchens may be, what zip code we claim, to what political ideology we subscribe, or with which ethnic or gender group we identify, we all want our loved ones to be safe. We want them to be healthy, to eat good food, to get an education, and to come home to us safely at the end of the day.
The systemic problems of the world seem overwhelming and unchangeable sometimes. But what if, in the same way we engage in the daily rituals of care, we also each took a small piece of the larger burden and shared it. Maybe then we could pack a lighter and healthier legacy for our loved ones.
